The Tetlin River is an approximately 120 km long left tributary of the Tanana River in the interior of Alaska .
It rises from a glacier on the northern flank of the Wrangell Mountains near the border of the Wrangell-St.-Elias National Park , flows in a north-easterly direction, flows through Tetlin Lake and passes the place Tetlin . The Kalukna River then flows into the river on the right. 35 km southeast of Tok the Tetlin River meets the Tanana River from the left . It lies west of the Tetlin National Wildlife Refuge and runs largely parallel to its border. The Tetlin River is part of the river system of the Yukon River .
The name goes back to "Tetling", the name of the native inhabitants for the river, documented by Lieutenant Allen in 1887 . FC Schrader of the United States Geological Survey named the river "Bear Creek" in 1902.
