TBAB is used in phase transfer catalysis and as a synthesis base. In addition, TBAB can be used as an electrolyte and as a solvent. TBAB is often used analogously to an ionic liquid , although it is not counted as such due to its melting point of over 100 ° C. It can also be used as a microwave absorber in syntheses.
