Tetrabutylammonium hydroxide (TBAH) is a strong base with the constitutional formula (C 4 H 9 ) 4 N + OH - . The quaternary ammonium compound is soluble in organic solvents , so that it can be dissolved in methanol as a standard solution for anhydrous titration of very weak acids , e.g. B. phenols can be used.

In this case, methanol is first deprotonated, which is then used to titrate phenol.
