Tetraphenylsilane is a chemical compound from the group of carbosilanes .

Extraction and presentation

Tetraphenylsilane was first produced in 1886 by A. Polis by the simultaneous reduction of tetrachlorosilane and chlorobenzene with metallic sodium in diethyl ether .

It can also be obtained by reacting phenyllithium with silicon chloride.

It is also produced by the decomposition of octaphenylcyclotetrasilane .

Tetraphenylsilane is a white solid that is insoluble in water. It is so stable that it can be distilled at a temperature of 550 ° C without decomposition. It is difficult to use in diethyl ether and ethanol , and easily soluble in hot benzene .
