Kurt Volkmann

Kurt Volkmann (born September 27, 1897 in Kassel , † May 8, 1958 in Kettwig ) was a German lawyer and magician.

Life

Volkmann was the son of the secret government and building councilor Max Volkmann and cousin of the administrative lawyer Ernst Volkmann .

Kurt Volkmann attended the Kaiser-Wilhelms-Gymnasium in Hanover. Even then he was occupied with the art of magic . After he had passed the school leaving examination in 1915, he took part in the German Army (German Empire) in the First World War. Most recently he was first lieutenant . After his release from French captivity , he began to study law at the Eberhard Karls University . On April 25, 1920 he became active in the Corps Rhenania Tübingen . Wilhelm Kohlhaas and Ulrich Weiss were co-active. On October 21, 1920 he was reciprocated . After nine scales inactivated on November 28, 1921 , he moved to the Friedrichs-Universität Halle and the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen . In 1922 he passed the legal traineeship at the Higher Regional Court of Celle . In 1923 he was promoted to Dr. iur. PhD. After he had passed the assessor examination in 1926, he ran his own law firm in Düsseldorf from 1928 . From 1930 he was at the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court . In 1937 he married Lotte Stahn († 1983) from Berlin . From 1939 to 1945 he fought in World War II , most recently as a major .

Magic art

Since 1928 he was a member of the Magic Circle of Germany . Here it soon gained greater importance through numerous articles on the history of magic. In 1951 he took over the editing of the organ magic . In 1952 Volkmann was elected president of the association. He held both offices until his death. Volkmann was the first German to systematically review the history of magic in 104 episodes in the association's magazine Magie . To date there is no comparable work in German. The episodes were published regularly from 1939 until his death. An English translation is in the Archives Conjuring Arts Research Center , operated by Bill Kalush in New York City .
