Tetra- n -propylammoniumhydroxid ( TPAOH ) is a chemical compound and the hydroxide of tetrapropylammonium cation.
properties
As a low molecular weight quaternary ammonium compound, tetrapropylammonium hydroxide is difficult to isolate and is therefore mostly a colorless, sometimes slightly yellowish aqueous solution. It is sensitive to air and should therefore be stored cool and in closed containers, ideally in a nitrogen atmosphere. It is also incompatible with oxidizing agents .

Tetrapropylammonium hydroxide is a base and can be used as a starting material in chemical synthesis, in ion exchangers , as a surfactant and as a solvent . Applications as a component of antistatic agents , cleaning agents, plasticizers , emulsifiers or pigments are also known. It is also used as a phase transfer catalyst in organic synthesis.
