Borehole

The Teufelsstein is a boulder that lies around 300 meters south-southwest of the Trissow district in the municipality of Görmin in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district . It is located in the undergrowth on the east bank of a stream flowing to the Peene , at the end of an old mill dam. The stone is registered as a geotope at the State Office for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Geology Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania under the number G2_053 . It was designated as a natural monument for the first time in 1938.

Seven blocks have broken out of the stone, some of which are in the stream. Two drill holes can be seen. The stone is 4.7 m long, 3.7 m wide and 2.6 m high. The volume is specified as 23 m 3 to 27 m 3 depending on the form factor applied .

According to the latest petrographic analysis, the boulder is a garnet-bearing cordierite gneiss that belongs to the paragneiss family . White streaks up to 5 cm wide were identified as plagioclase . It is very likely that the boulder came from the Sörmland basin near Stockholm , where this gneiss ( Granatådergnejs in Swedish ) is found over a large area.

The devil stone got its name after a legend. Allegedly, the devil killed a seductive miller who was causing mischief in the area with the stone.
