Thakandar is a German black metal - band from Osnabrück .

history

Thakandar was founded in 2008 by Sebastian "Xorg" Schreiber, Ingo "Kelrath" Hehmann, Thomas "Anzuhl" Hellermann and Pascal "Torrent" Krabbemeyer. The name is a modification of Robert Jordan's fantasy epic The Wheel of Time and describes a region, "Thakan'Dar", in which evil has entered. In autumn 2009 the first demo Unleashed was recorded and published. This is more oriented towards Death Metal with little Black Metal influences. Shortly after the recording, Dennis “Kaikas” Bluhm joined the band and played the second guitar from then on . A first EP Shattered was released in early 2012 . This shows clearly more Black Metal influences than the demo.

Anzuhl left the band in mid-2015, whereupon Kaikas switched from guitar to bass . In August of the same year a new guitarist was found in Torben "Zavragor" Rothert. In July 2016 Kaikas left the band. Shortly afterwards, Stefan “Argui” Laubner completed the band as the new bass player. In November of the same year, the first album Dying Earth was recorded in the sound forge Studio E at Markus Stock . However, this was only published on October 20, 2017. In February 2017, Torrent announced that he was leaving the band. A short time later, the band signed their first record deal with the label Einheit Produktionen . In April Sebastian “Marlek” Schlüter joined the band as the new drummer.

At the end of 2019, Marlek was replaced by Mike "Nehgramoth" Harland.

style

The music was initially more oriented towards Death Metal with Black Metal influences, but on the following releases it experiences an ever greater change to melodic Black Metal. The lyrics are mostly about human abysses. The band is inspired by Stephen King's The Dark Tower and Dan Simmons ' Die Hyperion-Gesänge / Endymion, among others . In the beginning the band performed with typical Black Metal corpse paint , but later decided not to.
