Thamnobryum is a subcosmopolitan genus of deciduous mosses from the Neckeraceae family .
features
The plants have a conspicuous tree-shaped growth: they have a main stem that creeps on the ground. Small trunks rise from this and branch out at some height. The branches and side boxes are arranged in one plane. The plants often grow in bodies of water on earth and rocks.
Systematics and types
Thamnobryum was traditionally led together with some other genera in the family Thamnobryaceae ; this in turn was part of the Neckerales order . Due to recent research, the Neckerales order was eliminated and incorporated into Hypnales ; likewise the former genera of the Thamnobryaceae are now assigned to the Neckeraceae family .
The genus Thamnobryum counts around 44 species worldwide, of which 3 occur in Europe:
- Foxtail moss ( Thamnobryum alopecurum )
- Tree moss similar to Neckermoos ( Thamnobryum neckeroides ), rare in Europe
- Thamnobryum subserratum , recently found in Austria / Carinthia
