The Thauabach is a right tributary of the Deutsche Thaya in Lower Austria . It drains over the German Thaya and the Thaya into the March , the Danube and thus into the Black Sea .

The brook rises at around 580 m above sea level to the southwest of the Edelbach village, which has been deserted since 1938, on the grounds of the Allentsteig military training area . It flows off in a westerly direction, then turns to the north-northwest at the dilapidated Großpoppen , leaves the area of the military training area south of Allentsteig , feeds the Allentsteig lake and crosses Allentsteig. At Windigsteig the brook flows into the Deutsche Thaya . The catchment area is around 107 km². The length is given as 76 km.
