The Arusha Accord is a six-piece band from Reading , United Kingdom . It was founded in 2005 by James Clayton, Tom Hollings, Luke Williams and Mark Vincent and combines technical death metal with math core elements.

The name of the band is derived from the Arusha Agreement (in English : "arusha accord"), which describes the most important peace agreement between the then ruling Rwandan party MRND and the rebels of the RPF during the civil war. The band decided on this name because they wanted to differentiate themselves from the band names typical of the scene.

history

James Clayton, Tom Hollings, Luke Williams and Mark Vincent met in elementary school at the age of eleven. With the addition of the singers Alex and Paul Green, the band The Arusha Accord was formed in 2005. After three years of intensive songwriting and rehearsing, the band released their debut EP Nightmares of the Ocean in summer 2008 via Basick Records , which had become aware of the band a few months earlier and signed them.

In 2009, the band left Basick Records and started looking for a new label, as Basick Records did not have the possibility at that time to distribute the planned debut album outside of Great Britain, which made it difficult to make the music more accessible . This was followed by a number of offers from various labels, including Listenable Records and Earache Records . But it was finally decided to sign with Wolf At Your Door Records , as the management of the band was part of the label. In the summer of the same year, the band released a self-titled split single with group A Textbook Tragedy from Vancouver , Canada . A joint tour of Great Britain followed. Subsequently, the first album The Echo Verses was released in November, which included eight new songs as well as three old songs from the first EP in a remastered version. In the summer of 2010, the band then announced that they wanted to take a longer break after performing at the Brutal Assault , which will be about three years.

In February 2011, The Arusha Accord returned to Basick Records after they made a worldwide distribution of their own releases possible through contracts with the German label Century Media and the Warner Music Group company ADA. In April the band released a re-release of The Echo Verses , which included the first EP as well as additional bonus material. The album cover was designed by Tom Gilmour, who works for Wood & Cloud , a company specializing in cover artwork , which also created the cover for Devil Sold His Souls A Fragile Hope .

In March 2013 the band announced their return for the coming year. During the almost three-year hiatus, personal matters and other bands were taken care of, such as Alex Green's post-hardcore band Attention Thieves , in which he plays an active role as both singer and guitarist. Despite the break, the band is still working on their second studio album.

style

The Arusha Accord are characterized by the constant changes in beat and tempo . Bassist Luke, who is responsible for the songwriting, stated in an interview that at the age of 16 he stopped writing songs in the typical 4/4 time , but instead focused on writing other time signatures to use.

Others

The two singers Alex and Paul Green are not, as is often assumed, brothers, nor are they related.
