The Blood of Yingzhou District ( Chinese  潁州 的 孩子 , Pinyin Yǐngzhōu de Háizi ; translation: The Children of Yingzhou ) is a short documentary film from 2006 by director Ruby Yang and produced by Thomas Lennon . The film won an Oscar in 2007 for Best Documentary Short Film .

The film is about orphans in the Yingzhou district of the city of Fuyang , whose parents became fatally ill with AIDS while donating blood . Because of the fear of developing AIDS if they come into contact with the children, they are largely denied help from the rest of the city.

Awards

In addition to the Oscar award, the film received the Grand Jury Award at the Silverdocs Film Festival in 2006 and the Chicago Doc Humanitarian Award at the Chicago International Documentary Film Festival in 2007 . He also got u. a. the Audience Award at the Thessaloniki Documentary Film Festival and the Golden Reel Award at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival . It has also been shown at the Newport Beach International Film Festival and the San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival .
