The Cloudmaker (German: "Der Wolkenmacher") is a massive mountain with a height of 2680 m , which is located on the western edge of the Beardmore Glacier halfway between the Ross Ice Shelf and the Polar Plateau south of the confluent Hewson Glacier in the Transantarctic Mountains . Its ice-free, towering summit facing the Beardmore Glacier is particularly striking .
He was discovered by participants in the Nimrod expedition (1907-1909) under the British polar explorer Ernest Shackleton . It got its name because of the frequent formation of clouds on the summit, which makes the mountain a particularly noticeable landmark .
