The Secret of the Flamingos (Original title The Crimson Wing: Mystery of the Flamingos , German reference title: Auf purple Schwingen - The Secret of the Flamingos ) is a British- American documentary about the Lesser Flamingos in Tanzania . It was produced for Disneynature .

action

The film shows the life of the Lesser Flamingos in their nesting areas on the shores of Lake Natron in Tanzania . Among other things, the breeding and rearing of birds are shown. The flamingo cubs have to endure numerous dangers, including attacks by marabou and spotted hyenas .

The plot ultimately focuses on the life of a single chick that was separated from its mother in a marabou attack shortly after birth. Alone it escapes the marabou and later joins the rest of the flamingos again.

criticism

The lexicon of international films praised the “breathtaking images” and “delightfully choreographed sequences”, which also “do not suppress the cruelty of natural processes”. The staging pulls "all the stops of cinematic storytelling", although the film does not span the "arc of humanization".
