action

Ardal Travis is in second grade led by Miss Purdy. He is in love with his teacher and on a Friday he gives her a ring that he bought with his pocket money. She jokingly asks whether they are now engaged and adds that she will consider this proposal. Ardal goes into the weekend happily. At the weekend, while shopping, he meets his mother, Miss Purdy, who has a little chat with him. She proudly shows his mother the engagement ring she just received from her boyfriend. Ardal is offended. His father works as a security guard, so he has weapons in the house. Ardal watches as his father hides a gun in the closet.

On Monday he is in a bad mood with Miss Purdy and explains this with the fact that she has become engaged to another man. He ignores her attempts to explain and instead intercepts her friend. At first he jokingly explained to Ardal that Miss Purdy had chosen him because Ardal could not offer her any financial security and was also a bit small. Ardal challenges him to a duel with pistols, which is to take place the next day on the school grounds. The friend jokingly responds to this request.

The next day he is about to drive home with Miss Purdy when he sees Ardal waiting for him. Excited to see how the story will end, the friend goes to the agreed duel area. In front of Ardal, he jokingly admits that he has forgotten his weapon, and is surprised when Ardal pulls a pistol from his backpack. Ardal says the gun is real because his father is a security guard. Miss Purdy arrives and confirms this. Her friend panics, but Ardal tells Miss Purdy not to get help. Ardal wants to hear from her boyfriend that he will not marry her. At first her boyfriend refuses to say so, but collapses when Ardal releases the safety catch. He says that he never wanted to marry Miss Purdy, just got engaged to her because she pushed him so hard. He doesn't believe in weddings at all. When he yells at Miss Purdy that she should finally get help, the stupid bitch ("stupid bitch"), Ardal shoots at the friend. The gun turns out to be a toy gun. However, Miss Purdy has now learned the truth and separates from her boyfriend. She walks away with Ardal and they both agree that this case will not be mentioned in the class register. Ardal explains to Miss Purdy that he will not marry her after all, because he cannot offer her financial security and she deserves to afford everything she wants. When she replies that a girl will one day be very happy with him, he replies that girls are stupid.
