The Cube is a game show from Great Britain in which candidates can win money by solving supposedly easier tasks. In Germany, the first edition was broadcast on April 29, 2011 under the name The Cube - Besiege the Würfel , which was moderated by Nazan Eckes . A second edition was broadcast on June 10, 2011 at 8.15 p.m., one hour earlier. The show was discontinued after the second broadcast due to a lack of audience ratings.
Show concept
In seven games the candidate can win money (in the German edition 250,000 euros, in England 250,000 pounds ). Above all, he has to show speed and skill. The individual games seem simple at first, but then turn out to be very tricky. All games take place in a cube with an edge length of four meters.
Each player has nine "lives". Each time he fails in a game he loses one of these lives. As soon as he loses his last life, his previously earned profit is gone.
There are two ways to facilitate the game each time: Each candidate can ask for a game to be made easier (for example, by spending more time solving the tasks). In addition, each candidate can do a trial run at a game once. If he does not succeed in the game, there are no consequences. But if he does it, he won't win anything.
The game ends as soon as a candidate has no life left, decides to quit after a game or when he has cracked the jackpot of 250,000 euros.
The seven games have these profit levels:
Game number | Profit | reached |
---|---|---|
eliminated | - | 2 |
1 | € 1,000 | - |
2 | € 2,000 | - |
3 | € 10,000 | 3 |
4th | € 20,000 | 1 |
5 | € 50,000 | 1 |
6th | € 100,000 | - |
7th | € 250,000 | - |
particularities
In contrast to the supposed simplicity of the games is the futuristic look of the show. Almost 100 cameras are used to shoot at the same time so that fragments can be seen later in the show in slow motion or with a bullet-time effect. Because of this complex production, RTL had the show produced in the original studios in London .
The cube is spoken by Klaus-Dieter Klebsch in Germany . He explains the games to the candidates and makes further comments with a sarcastic undertone (e.g. when using jokers).
