The Dixie Boys is a Portuguese rockabilly band from Porto .

Career

After the formation and first rehearsals in 1993, the group made their first appearance on June 17, 1994, in the D.Albuquerque bar on the waterfront in Vila Nova de Gaia . Her first published recordings were two pieces on the 1995 Portuguese rockabilly compilation Portugal Rockers , while her first album was released in 1997, in a small edition self-distributed. They played a variety of concerts in Portugal, and performed more often in Spain. After the singer left the band in 1996 for professional reasons, bassist Rui Ferreira had to stop his music career in 1997 for professional reasons. In 1999 the group disbanded. In 2001 the Dixie Boys got together again for a single concert, for a performance in the Oldies Bar in Porto.

In August 2005 Rui Ferreira and Fernando Pereira decided to re-establish the band. After the rejection of the previous members, they recruited new musicians with Ricardo Prazeres (vocals and acoustic guitar) and Mário Cunha (drums).

In 2008 her album Rockin 'Storm was released , the title track on CD sampler No. 10 of the German music magazine Dynamite! was represented.

As part of an unusual concert series in the Porto subway , the Dixie Boys also played there in May 2009, before they took part in a commercial for the Super Bock beer brand in the summer of that year . In 2010 and 2011 they appeared on television several times after recording an album with Franco-Portuguese rockabilly veteran Nelson Carrera . They appeared live on a TVI broadcast , as well as on the popular Praça da Alegria broadcast on the first public broadcasting channel RTP . They had already been able to present their mini-album Mean Mean Gal from the beginning of 2010 on television, even if only on regional television in their home metropolitan area Grande Porto .

The Dixie Boys play 50s rockabilly in the wilder version of Johnny Burnette or Ronnie Self , with influences from country styles of the 40s.
