The Dresden Dolls is the debut album by the American music group The Dresden Dolls and was released on September 26, 2003.

History of origin

The self-titled album was released on 8ft Records. All songs were written by Amanda Palmer . The album was released as a digipack and re-released there after switching to Roadrunner Records in 2004 .

Music style and influences

The duo, which is subtitled “ Brechtian Punk Cabaret”, is stylistically based on the jazz and dance music of the 1920s. The influences are manifold, from dealing with heavy metal and rock music to the cabaret of the Weimar Republic to their parents, who first brought them to the instruments.

Singles and Videos

The songs Good Day , Girl Anachronism and Coin-Operated Boy were released as singles, with the latter two also being accompanied by music videos made by Michael Pope.

Good Day was initially released as a white 7 "vinyl limited to 500 copies and was distributed by Important Records. Amanda Palmer later re-released the single on her label 8ft Records. The B-side includes A Night at the Roses .

There is no purchase version of the Single Girl Anachronism , and it was only pressed and mailed for promotional purposes.

Coin-Operated Boy was released exclusively in Germany as a maxi and also contains a live version of the song as well as a cover version of the Britney Spears hit Baby One More Time . The video for the song can also be found on the maxi.

Dresden Dolls Companion

In Dresden Dolls Companion , Amanda Palmer published a story of the album and the duo, in some cases an autobiography. The book also includes lyrics, sheet music and commentary for each song on the album.
