The Evil Divide is the eighth studio album by the US thrash metal band Death Angel . The album was released on May 27, 2016 via Nuclear Blast .

Emergence

The band started working on their new album in 2015. The new songs were created both on tour and at home. According to singer Mark Osegueda, the band initially viewed the new album as the conclusion of a trilogy that began with the albums Relentless Retribution and The Dream Calls for Blood . It was only later that Osegueda and guitarist Rob Cavestany realized that the new songs stand alone musically and lyrically.

Recordings for the album began on October 1, 2015 at AudioHammer Studios in Sanford , Florida . The album was produced by Jason Suecof. For the first time since the album Act III , which was released in 1990 , the band was able to record three albums in a row with the same line-up. The mastering was done by Ted Jensen.

The album title refers to the state of the world, which singer Mark Osegueda described as "catastrophic". According to Osegueda, parties and movements have established themselves around the world whose sole aim is to sow hatred among people. As an example, he cited Donald Trump , who was running for the Republican Party in the 2016 US presidential election when the album was released .

“However, I can't get into my head why Trump is so successful. He spreads hatred and agitation, and the herd runs blindly in his direction. This division of society has now reached a sad, even disgusting climax. On the other hand, this is perfect fuel for a metal record. "

- Mark Osegueda

Cause for Alarm is about people being easily influenced by the mass media . While television used to be responsible, according to Osegueda , this process has now shifted to the Internet . Osegueda described the phenomenon as brainwashing , and at the same time censorship was on the rise. Hatred United / United Hate is a wake up call to society to rebel against governments.
