The Fades are a British band from London . Their music is a mix of rock and punk.

Band history

Motivated by grunge music, The Fades were founded by James Lightfoot and his younger brother Dave in Twickenham in September 2002 . They were joined by drummer Graham Best and guitarist Jonny Barnard. All of them played in various other bands before and are friends. At first the band was called Petrol Bomb , later Molotov Cocktail , until the band decided to release the first single for The Fades .

In the beginning, The Fades did everything on their own. For reasons of cost, they recorded with analog recording devices. Since some of the band members were studying to be sound engineers, the first recordings were of good quality. The first two demos "You Say" and "Life Support", still recorded under the old name Molotov Cocktail , were played by Steve Lamacq on his broadcast on the BBC . In 2003 Genepool Records released the two demos as singles. Both were played again by Steve Lamacq, but also by other BBC presenters. Other radio stations like Xfm took notice and added the songs to their playlists. In 2004 the first EP “Social Misfits” was released with eight songs and they went on tour with Art Brut .

At the beginning of 2006 her next single "Caca" was released. It was featured on the BBC's playlist and was very well received on 6 Music , the BBC's digital channel. In April 2006 they were invited to a session at Marc Riley's Rocket Science. In addition to three of their own songs, they played "Another Song About Motorbikes", a cover of The Creepers , Marc Riley's former band.

In the summer of 2006, drummer Graham Best left the band and was replaced by Alastair "Flash" Thorpe. In 2008 there was a new line-up, since then Jonny Juviler has been playing the drums.

In April 2007, the self-titled debut album "The Fades" came on the market. It was very well received. B. played in the NDR night club with Paul Baskerville and at the FSK . In October 2007 they recorded new material, which for the first time was only available as a download. In November 2007 The Fades played in Italy at an indie festival. In 2008 the New York label Cranky Girl Records released the split single "The Split" with the English band GST Cardinals. At the insistence of the fans that they should record something live, they decided to record a complete album live in the studio with an audience, a mixture of party and concert. The album will be released at the end of September 2010.
