The Gamers: Hands of Fate is a 2013 film produced by Dead Gentlemen Productions that caricatures pen & paper role-playing games and trading card games . The film was written and directed by Matt Vancil and produced by Dead Gentlemen Productions and Zombie Orpheus Entertainment . The film has not yet been dubbed in German. The two predecessors The Gamers and The Gamers: Dorkness Rising were released in 2002 and 2008, respectively. The film was successfully financed by Kickstarter in 2012 and exceeded expectations so much that the production company received additional bonuses in the form of miniatures and a DVD of the on the GenCon Indy 2012 filmed stage show the Gamers poured out. As a thank you to all fans, the full length of the film could be downloaded free of charge from the production company's website for a limited time shortly after its release.

action

The Gamers: Hands of Fate plays ironically with stereotypes of role-players and trading card players and parodies their traditionally tense relationship with one another in a tongue-in-cheek manner.

The old group from The Gamers: Dorkness Rising still plays in the back room of Leo's RPG store with Cass as Brother Silence, Joanna as Daphne, Gary as Luster, Leo as Flynn and Lodge as game master . But some time has passed and one has grown older. The group switched from D&D 3.5 to Pathfinder (role play) and Joanna and Lodge are now a couple with corresponding obligations. Only Cass seems to take the game seriously, as there is nothing else in his life that could be of the same importance.

But then Cass becomes aware of the sharp-tongued and no less attractive Natalie at a trading card tournament in Leo's shop. In order to impress her and to prove to her that he can master any kind of game, he lets himself be introduced to the world of collectible card games in the best matrix manner by Leo, who has become his mentor . The showdown will take place at the GenCon Indy 2012, where Cass set it in her head to win the national trading card tournament and thus also Natalie's heart.

Parodies

As in many real groups, gamers have shifted their priorities from role-playing to other areas of life over time and as they grow up, leading to conflicts with other players who still practice role-playing as a "serious" hobby. Gary now has a steady job and has to cancel role play sessions because his boss expects him to take care of an important customer. Joanna and Lodge have early morning engagements and don't want to play until late at night. Cass, on the other hand, complains that, in his opinion, the group doesn't get together enough to play. As the story progresses, Gary finds himself driven insane by anger over the cancellation of his favorite series "Ninja Dragon Riders". In their fictional theme song, the last line to appear is "You can't take the sky frome me", which comes from the theme of " Firefly ", whose premature cancellation after only one year many fans have barely got over to this day.
