The Lab (original title HaMaabada ) is a 2013 documentary by Israeli director Yotam Feldman about the Israeli military industry.

The Israeli-Belgian-French co-production by Gum Films has a running time of 60 minutes, was shot in Hebrew and has English subtitles. The film aroused controversy because it depicts how closely the Israeli military is intertwined with industry and government, and how the war effort in the Occupied Territories is used as a marketing tool to promote Israeli military technology as battle-tested worldwide.

content

The 60-minute film shows the rise in arms production after September 11, 2001, and the arms trade that originated in Israel and which developed into a profitable business. Director Yotam Feldman remains neutral and does not evaluate. He uses investigative journalism techniques . He attends various arms dealers and armaments fairs and is present at diplomatic meetings. The film shows how the private arms dealers manipulate a network of Israeli politicians and army leaders. Israeli arms dealers operate worldwide and show foreign states how they can use Israeli technology to fight civil and paramilitary resistance groups.

Awards

The film was honored as best directorial debut at the Tel Aviv International Documentary Film Festival in 2013 and was also shown at the DOK Leipzig Festival , the Antenna Documentary Festival in Sydney and the Visions du Réel film festival in Nyon, Switzerland.
