The Peanuts ( japanese ザ·ピーナッツ Za Pīnattsu ), German and Peanuts , was a vocal duo of the two identical twin sisters Emi Ito ( 伊藤エミ , born Hideyo Ito ( 伊藤日出代 )) and Yumi Ito ( 伊藤ユミ , born Tsukiko Ito ( 伊藤 月 子 )). You were born in Tokoname , Aichi Prefecture , Japan on April 1, 1941. The family moved to Nagoya shortly after she was born . Emi died on June 15, 2012., Yumi on May 18, 2016.

Both danced and, above all, sang in sync, creating the effect of a single singer with a slight echo.

Career

Their career began in 1959 when they were discovered by Misa Watanabe from the Watanabe Productions agency and their first piece, Kawaii Hana ( 可愛 い 花 ) - a cover of the jazz standard Petite fleur - appeared . Both dropped out of school.

In the first years the duo sang arrangements of classics, foreign songs and Japanese folk songs, later also originals written by their producer, Hiroshi Miyagawa and composers such as Kōichi Sugiyama and Rei Nakanishi .

1961 followed an appearance in the film Mothra threatens the world and 1964 in the films Godzilla and the Urweltwlaupen and Frankenstein's monster in the fight against Ghidorah .

In 1975 they ended their career as Emi married the singer Kenji Sawada (pseudonym and Shinjitai : 沢 田 研 二 , civil and Kyūjitai : 澤 田 研 二 ), from whom she was divorced in 1987.

Germany

The duo also had success in Germany and Austria, unusual for Japanese singers. In 1963, Caterina Valente was in Japan, where the duo caught her attention, so she invited them to her show Bonsoir Catrin in Germany. On the occasion of the Summer Olympics in 1964 , Michael Pflegehar filmed The Big Show from Tokyo , where both were also invited, and the musical director Heinz Kiessling produced German-language recordings with them, such as Souvenirs from Tokyo . Nebelhar shot another show with them in 1965 called The Smile in the West . In 1965 they also appeared in the supporting program of the German Schlager Festival in 1965 .

Between 1964 and 1967 they published eight singles in German. In 1965 souvenirs from Tokyo reached a position in the Austrian (at least 18) and German Billboard charts (40, 2 weeks) and in 1967 again Bye, Bye Yokohama in Germany (30, 4 weeks).
