Power Station was a supergroup in the 1980s.
Band history
founding
In 1985 the British band Duran Duran took an artistic break. John Taylor and Andy Taylor joined then by chance with the former drummer of Chic , Tony Thompson , as well as the solo artist Robert Palmer for a joint project together.
Initially, John Taylor wanted to record a cover version of the hit Get It On by T. Rex together with his then partner. However, before the recordings had even started, the couple split. Instead, Palmer was hired for the recording, and ultimately eight tracks were recorded with the assistance of producer Bernard Edwards .
The self-titled album was released in the spring of 1985. The first single , Some Like It Hot , reached number six on the Billboard Hot 100 , and Get It On (Bang a Gong) also reached the US top ten. Communication , the last single on the album, only barely reached the top 40.
A few days before the start of the first tour , however, Palmer left the project in favor of his solo career. In the spring of 1986 he had his first and only number one hit in the US with Addicted to Love . The singer Michael Des Barres was hired at short notice for the tour, which also included an appearance at the Live Aid concert . The project was then dissolved.
comeback
In autumn 1996 Power Station returned with the original line-up with the album Living in Fear . John Taylor left the band during the recording and was replaced on bass by Bernard Edwards. Edwards died shortly before the start of the subsequent tour, and the band then toured with replacement bassists, including Guy Pratt . Then the band broke up again.
Both Palmer and Thompson died in 2003.
