The Triffids were an Australian indie rock band from the 1980s.

Band history

The band was founded in 1980 by singer and songwriter David McComb , his brother Robert McComb (guitar) and drummer Alsy MacDonald in Perth (Australia). In 1982 and 1983 bassist Martyn Casey and keyboardist Jill Birt completed the band.

The music of the Triffids can be described as melancholy-dark folk-pop. Although the majority of the Triffids songs had catchy melodies and a certain pop appeal, the band could not achieve any noteworthy chart success. The re-release of the five studio albums by Domino Records in 2006-2008 did not change that. The Triffids remain the big unknown band from Australia to this day. Her song Bury me deep in love was at least a small radio hit in Germany at the end of the 1980s. In 2008 they were honored with the induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame .
