chronology
- The Verve EP A Storm in Heaven (1993)

The Verve EP is the first extended play by the Northern English band Verve (later renamed The Verve ). It was released on December 1, 1992 and was the band's first album-like release . The EP is a compilation of the z. Some of them edited the A and B sides of the band's first three singles, which were initially only to be released in North America . Nevertheless, with a playing time of over 30 minutes, it is in no way inferior to classic album lengths.

description

After the brilliant reactions to the first three singles by Verve in the alternative area - at that time only available in limited quantities - this compilation was intended to respond to the increased demand. Despite its length, The Verve EP was sold as a single with "A Man Called Sun" as the title track. He already appeared as the B-side on the debut single All In The Mind . So now one was low budget - video shot for the song in which the band on the back of a truck played and around Times Square in New York , USA is driven. The song itself takes on a pioneering role in trip-hop with its swinging bass line and the staccato beats of the drums played with percussion brooms . In addition, Richard Ashcroft breathes his dreams and hopes for redemption and recognition into the microphone with a tender voice, while Nick McCabe lets sounds like drops of water fall on the song with his electronic effects guitar .

With Gravity Grave and She's A Superstar , the compilation contains two psychedelic rock tracks in abbreviated edited form, which in the same year already topped the English indie charts as single A-pages . They are the two most typical songs of the band, which can be assigned to the genre Shoegaze . In contrast, the remaining songs show hardly any rock elements and float in intangible spherical levels. Endless Life was released a year later on the Ambient - Sampler "A Brief History Of Ambient Music: Volume 2 - Imaginary Landscapes' u. a. with Brian Eno , Tangerine Dream and David Sylvian .
