A Storm In Heaven ( Engl. : A Storm in Heaven ) is the first official long recording music album by the British band Verve (later The Verve ) and was on the 21st June 1993 published. It reached number 27 on the official UK album charts.

description

The album demonstrates a synthesis of rock and spherical ambient sounds, dominated by Nick McCabe's guitar, sometimes tender, sometimes booming and mainly oscillating in between, but never engaging in a specific note . In addition, Richard Ashcroft breathes surreal - lyrical texts on the stable, driving framework of the rhythm section . Musical comparisons for this avant-garde sound, which Verve present on this album, could not be made out at the time. At most early works by the artists themselves can be used, such as The Verve EP and the B-side collection No Come Down .

Booklet and videos

The booklet was designed by Michael Spencer Jones (photos) and Brian Cannon (design) in collaboration with Richard Ashcroft . The album cover shows the inside of a cave ( see picture ) in which the letters of the word VERVE are on fire. In the background, the exit, which is visually reminiscent of the shape of the cervix, is illuminated in the middle . On the back of the album a tomb is depicted, wrapped in a cloth with the inscription Verve .

This encased symbolism of birth and death in connection with verve (in the sense of the term) is also taken up by the songs - lyrically attached to the arc from “ Hello it's me… ” ( Star Sail intro ) to “ Goodbye my” love. ”( See You in the Next One ... Outro ). The album reflects the life cycle of a Verve in terms of a creative (or manic ) phase.

The video clip for Single Blue also plays with this symbolism. While the main part of Blue takes place in a basement (club), the band leaves him towards the end of the clip and finds themselves simultaneously at the exit of Thor's Cave ( see picture ). After Ashcroft and co. (blurred) in the open air, the clip ends.
