The War on Drugs is a documentary about the war on drugs. It is the second film from parallel universe .
The film describes how the war on drugs is waged using three central locations : the open war in Colombia , the prison industry in the USA and the work of the US police unit DEA are at the center of the film. In Colombia, the United States has been trying to tackle drug trafficking with Plan Colombia for eight years now . The work of the DEA ( Drug Enforcement Administration ) is the focus of the second third of the film. In the last part, the film shows how attempts are being made in the USA to enforce drug prohibition through draconian punishments.
The film was shown publicly for the first time at the Diagonale 2007 and opened in Austrian cinemas on October 12, 2007. The film opened in Spain on January 17th, 2008 . Simultaneously with the cinema release, the film was also immediately available as a paid download. Originally via the documentary film platform doc-air, which became part of the DOC Alliance platform in 2009, the entire film can be downloaded in DivX format.
