The Warning is a Mexican rock band from Monterrey . The sisters Daniela Villarreal (born January 30, 2000), Paulina Villarreal (born February 5, 2002) and Alejandra Villarreal (born December 13, 2004) began, encouraged and encouraged by their parents, all three of them in their earliest childhood a (classical) Piano training and then training on your respective band instrument. They have been playing together as a band since 2013, managed by their father Luis Villarreal and Rudy Joffroy. They initially turned down offers from record labels in order to be able to preserve their musical integrity without restrictions; they sell their music through their own online store and the well-known download platforms and are also financed through crowdfunding .

history

The Warning first hit  the headlines with cover versions of well-known rock songs on YouTube - in particular the cover of the Metallica song Enter Sandman , which went viral - and crowdfunding efforts and were then invited to her show by US presenter Ellen DeGeneres in April 2015 . This eventually enabled them to study summer at Berklee College of Music in Boston .

Their debut EP Escape the Mind was released on April 14, 2015. The EP contains five songs, all of which have been written by themselves, in various styles, with which the band wanted to try out and find their musical identity. She eventually decided on hard rock and released her first full album, XXI Century Blood, in March 2017, again with mostly self-written pieces. The concept album Queen of the Murder Scene followed in November 2018, the theme of which is a woman's descent into psychosis caused by unrequited love.

With the single Narcisista , released in 2019 , the band took up the expectation of a Spanish-language release repeatedly made in the Mexican media, but criticized just such public expectations in the Spanish text.

A first large, seven-week tour through North America (including Canada and Mexico) planned for 2020 had to be postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic ; only the opening concert in Mexico City could still take place on March 14, 2020. For this, the band managed to negotiate a contract with Republic Records for their label Lava Records , which guarantees their musical integrity, as they made public in August 2020.

style

The Warning play guitar-oriented hard rock with elaborate harmony vocals; the lead votes are shared by Daniela and Paulina Villarreal. In contrast to the very melodious voice guidance are the often gloomy lyrics about alienation in the internet age, loneliness, relationship problems, drug abuse, domestic violence and (in the concept album Queen of the Murder Scene ) psychotic states. The often complex bass lines give the band a great sonority despite the line-up with only three instruments.

Due to their familiarity, the band is unusually well-rehearsed when performing live, given their young age.
