The Weight of Chains (original title The Weight of Chains ) is a Canadian documentary from 2010 by the Canadian director of Serbian origin Boris Malagurski . The film analyzes the role that the US , NATO and the EU played in the breakup of Yugoslavia . It was released on December 17, 2010.

content

The film describes how the state of Yugoslavia ensured prosperity and peace for its inhabitants of all ethnicities. The film mentions Ronald Reagan's directives ( National Security Decisions Directive 133 to 1984 ). These include the demand to transform Yugoslavia into a market-oriented economy. Slobodan Milošević , Franjo Tuđman and Alija Izetbegović are all criticized and portrayed as greedy for power. The film also describes how the West made propaganda against the Serbs and how the KLA , which the CIA described a few years ago as a terrorist organization with ties to Osama bin Laden , was upgraded to a resistance group. The Gospić massacre is mentioned. He also describes the independence of Kosovo , which was massively supported by the USA under President George W. Bush . Interviews are made with Kosovars who themselves admit to being a kind of American colony. The film also shows how the new states were opened up as new sales markets. The EU, which would only represent the interests of an elite group of business leaders, would have had a massive influence on the circumstances surrounding the establishment of new states.

criticism

Konstantin Kilibarda criticized the film, on the one hand, because Malagurski would have cut film clips in between without explaining them, and also in terms of content: it was shallow propaganda that ignored the Serbian complicity and responsibility for the collapse of Yugoslavia.
