In the second show, the two candidates with the fewest votes were named and they had to sing one more time before the jury decided who had to leave the show.
The format changed from week eight, in which each candidate appeared with a song twice on the first show and once on the Results Show . At the end of this, the act with the fewest votes had to leave the show. The live shows began on October 15, and the live finals aired on December 17, 2005.

Controversy
Elimination of Maria Lawson and "Irish Mafia"
After the final showdown of the fifth live show, there was much discussion about Louis Walsh's decision to keep The Conway Sisters in the competition and to eliminate Maria Lawson for it. Osbourne later said Walsh was part of the "Irish Mafia" since The Convey Sisters, like Walsh, are Irish. When the voting results of all live shows were published at the end of the show, it was found that Lawson had received twice as many calls as the Conway Sisters.
Louis Walsh
Rumors later surfaced that Louis Walsh had left the show due to bullying by fellow judges. In addition to the media attention on his decision against Maria Lawson, there had been verbal attacks against him. In addition, Sharon Osbourne had spilled him on November 19, 2005 during the sixth live show with water. Walsh had previously asked her if she was on drugs and if she was taking " Ozzy's " drugs after she started to positively rate Journey South's performance. Cowell is said to have pleaded with Walsh to come back after he actually wanted to leave the show. Louis Walsh said he felt he couldn't take the pressure any more and put the thought that the incident might have been a PR gag, so he dismissed it.
