Theadora Van Runkle

Theadora Van Runkle (born March 27, 1929 in Los Angeles as Dorothy Schweppe ; † November 4, 2011 ibid) was an American costume designer . She has made costumes for more than thirty films. For this she was nominated three times for the Oscars .

Life

Van Runkle, born in Los Angeles in 1929, studied at the Chouinard Art Institute there . At first she worked as an illustrator for product catalogs and advertisements. Later she worked as a sketch artist for other fashion designers . She became known for the costumes in Bonnie and Clyde (1967), the first film she worked on. For this film she was nominated for an Oscar for best costume design . The following year she again made Dunaway's costumes for the film Thomas Crown Unbelievable.

She received her two other Oscar nominations for two films by Francis Ford Coppola , The Godfather - Part II (1974) and Peggy Sue's Married (1986).

Van Runkle was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2011.
