The Fifty-Fifty Theater is a private theater in Erlangen . It was opened in 1989 and is operated by the Friends of Theater Fifty-Fifty eV . Mostly cabaret is played; Concerts , readings by authors and comedy shows also regularly find their place in the program. The costs for the theater are covered by the friends' association, sponsors , entrance fees and volunteers .
history
The Fifty-Fifty Theater was initially established in the late 1980s in a converted, abandoned storage shed at the Erlangen freight yard with around 50 seats. Major parts of the building consist of the listed city wall of the Huguenot city of Erlangen. A high level of acceptance among the population and the central location of the venue quickly helped the theater achieve cult status for cabaret , so that in the early 1990s it was possible to expand the venue "right around the corner" and move it to the upper floor of the neighboring building .
A huge number of today's highly esteemed artists such as Ingo Appelt , Totales Bamberger Cabaret , Lizzy Aumeier , Matthias Egersdörfer , Torsten Goods , Claus von Wagner and many others played their first appearances there. The founder and current director of the Theater Fifty-Fifty is Andreas Bueler , a Swiss musician and art patron .
Venues
When there is strong demand, events from the Fifty-Fifty are occasionally outsourced to the E-Werk or to the nearby St. Matthew Church .
today
Today, the Fifty-Fifty Theater, with 150 to 200 shows annually, is the third largest regularly performed cultural venue in Erlangen after the Erlangen Theater and the Markgrafentheater .
For example, on January 20, 2016, the city of Erlangen's cultural award, endowed with € 5,000, was awarded there by Mayor Florian Janik .
The cultural scene in the Fifty-Fifty is only occasionally and to a very limited extent publicly subsidized. Several local service providers take care of both the catering of the artists and the well-being of the guests.
