Thekla of Kitzingen

The holy Thecla of Kitzingen (* in the 8th century in England ; † around 790 in Kitzingen ) was a Benedictine nun .

Like Bishop Boniface, she came from England, to whose support she came to the Frankish Empire together with Lioba from Wimborne Minster Abbey in Dorsetshire . St. Thekla first worked with the abbess Lioba , with whom she was related, in the Tauberbischofsheim abbey they jointly founded . After Hadeloga von Kitzingen's death , Thekla succeeded her as abbess of the Benedictine convents of Kitzingen and Ochsenfurt around 750 .

Her main focus was on education, upbringing and nursing.

Her name day is October 15th .
