Theo Gregori

Theo Gregori (born July 31, 1929 in Rochlitz ) is a former lieutenant general of the National People's Army (NVA) of the German Democratic Republic (GDR). He had been head of the intelligence administration in the GDR Ministry for National Defense (MfNV) since 1974 , was ousted in 1982 for foreign exchange offenses and retired.

Life

Gregori, son of a bricklayer, finished elementary school in 1945 and trained to be a carpenter by 1948. In 1947 he joined the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). In 1948 he became an employee of the Rochlitz district council . In 1949 he went to the People's Police (VP), completed a two-year officer course at the VP School in Döbeln and in 1951/52 another at the VP School in Kochstedt .

In 1950/51 Gregori was a department head at the People's Police in Leipzig . In 1952/53 he was deputy head of the department for military issues at the Central Council of Free German Youth (FDJ) in East Berlin . After another course at the College for Officers of the VP, he became editor of the regulations department in the staff of the Kasernierte Volkspolizei (KVP) in 1954 .

From 1955 to 1959 Gregori was a Hörer at the officers' academy of the Red Army in the Soviet Union and then moved to the Ministry for National Defense of the GDR (MfNV). From 1961 to 1964 he was deputy head of its administration and then head of department until 1970. From 1966 to 1968 he attended the General Staff Academy of the Armed Forces of the USSR in Moscow .

From 1970 to 1974 Gregori was an officer in the secretariat of the MfNV and then, as Arthur Franke's successor , became head of the ministry's intelligence administration. In 1976 he was promoted to major general and in 1979 to lieutenant general.

On September 30, 1982, Gregori was demoted for embezzlement and foreign currency offenses, removed from his post and retired.
