Theo Witvliet

Theo Witvliet (* 1939 ) is a Dutch theologian , journalist and author .

Career

Witvliet studied Protestant theology at the universities of Amsterdam and Strasbourg . He then obtained a doctorate in theology. After working as a radio journalist for the ecumenical broadcaster IKON for a few years , he became a lecturer in 1977, later professor of ecumenical theology at the University of Amsterdam. He has now retired.

In his courses and academic publications, Witvliet specialized in topics such as black theology in the USA and the liberation theologies of the Third World . His thinking is - closely related to the Amsterdam School of Theology - influenced by Karl Barth and the structural Marxism of Louis Althusser .
