Theobald von Schroetter

Ferdinand Theobald Freiherr von Schroetter (also: Schrötter; born January 11, 1820 in Marienwerder ; † May 21, 1881 in Wiesbaden ) was Prussian major general and most recently the commander of the 70th infantry regiment .

Life

origin

His grandfather was the Prussian Minister of Justice Karl Wilhelm von Schrötter . His parents were the higher regional judge, the secret judge and knight of the Order of St. John , Ferdinand Ludwig Dietrich Wilhelm von Schroetter (* June 20, 1786, † August 13, 1863) and his wife Marie Elisabeth, b. Wedecke (born September 1, 1789; † February 19, 1849), daughter of the Lutheran theologian and rector of the University of Königsberg Johann Christoph Wedeke . His brother Eduard (1822–1886) became a lawyer and district administrator , his brother Bruno (1816–1888) was an administrative lawyer and judge.

Career

He received his education at the grammar school in Marienwerder. After graduating, he volunteered in the 33rd Infantry Regiment on April 7, 1838 . There he was promoted to Portepeefähnrich on November 1, 1838 and to Seconde Lieutenant on February 25, 1841. From October 1, 1843 to September 30, 1844 he was assigned to the 1st Combined Reserve Battalion. After his return he was on June 1, 1845 for six weeks in the III. Battalion of the 1st Guard Landwehr Regiment detached. He was then appointed adjutant of the II Battalion on June 30, 1849 , but from August 26, 1849 to February 1, 1857 he was employed as a regimental adjutant. During this time he was promoted to Premier-Lieutenant on March 11, 1854. From April 15 to September 30, 1857 he was assigned to the Infantry Training Battalion. He then came from April 10, 1858 to July 14, 1859 as a company commander in the Landwehr battalion of the 33rd Infantry Regiment in Bartenstein . During this time he was promoted to captain on April 17, 1858. From there he returned to the 33rd Infantry Regiment on July 1, 1860 as a company commander.

During the German War of 1866 he fought near Münchengrätz and Königgrätz . After the war, on October 30, 1866, he was transferred as a major to Grenadier Regiment No. 4 , and on September 20, 1868, he was appointed commander of the 1st Battalion. During the Franco-Prussian War he fought near Colombey , Noisseville and Amiens , where he was wounded. He was also at the siege of Metz and the battle at Serpigny. For this he received the Iron Cross 2nd Class on September 23, 1870 and on January 18, 1871 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel.

After the war he was promoted to colonel on March 18, 1873 and transferred to the 70th infantry regiment as commander. He was awarded the Crown Order 2nd class on September 15, 1877 . On April 13, 1878 he got his departure with the character as major general and a pension. On January 4, 1879, he was put up for disposal with a pension .

family

Schroeder married on March 3, 1861 in Thorn Josephine Grischow (* September 6, 1830, † February 28, 1913). The couple had several children:
