Karl Wilhelm von Schrötter (born April 9, 1748 on Gut Wohnsdorf near Friedland in East Prussia ; † December 2, 1819 in Königsberg i. Pr. ) Was a German Minister of Justice in Prussia.

origin

His parents were Friedrich Wilhelm von Schrötter (* March 24, 1712; † August 21, 1790) and his wife Helene Barbara von der Groeben (* 1711; † November 24, 1773) from the House of Bäslack. His younger brother was the future Prussian reformer Friedrich Leopold von Schrötter .

Life

After studying law in Königsberg, he entered the Prussian civil service and from 1784 served as President of the State Judicial College in Marienwerder . From 1789 to 1794 Schrötter was at the Superior Court in Berlin, from 1807 to 1809 he was Prussian Minister of Justice and then President of the Higher Regional Court of Königsberg . In 1803 he was made Chancellor in Prussia . Friedrich Wilhelm III. (Prussia) appointed him to the Combined Immediatkommission in 1807 .

He married in 1st marriage with Carolina Amalia Juliana von Rothe († 10 July 1787), in 2nd marriage with Marie Charlotte zu Dohna-Lauck (* 1 November 1757; † 16 October 1794). Karl Wilhelm's son Ferdinand (1785–1863) was married to Elisabeth Wedeke (born September 1, 1789, † February 19, 1849). Their son Eduard (1822-1883) was married to Hedwig von Platen (1835-1907). This latter couple provided Fontane with the material for Effi Briest . Wilhelm von Schrötter emerged from Karl Wilhelm's third marriage to Katharine Sophie Albertine Caroline, Countess and Burggravess zu Dohna-Schlobitten, (* February 18, 1770, † April 14, 1864) . He became a Prussian district administrator and a member of the Frankfurt National Assembly .
