Theodoor Hendrik van de Velde

Theodoor Hendrik van de Velde (born February 12, 1873 in Leeuwarden , † April 27, 1937 near Lugano ) was a Frisian-Dutch gynecologist . He was director of the Gynecological Institute in Haarlem ( Netherlands ).

Life

In 1905 van de Velde first discovered the curve of body temperature in two phases. He linked this process in women with ovarian function . His book Het volkomen huwelijk (German: The Perfect Marriage ), published in 1926, made him internationally known. The book advocates knowledge and sensuality in eroticism. It is considered "the mother of all educational books". In Germany , The Perfect Marriage reached its 42nd edition in 1932, even though the Roman Catholic Church had put it on the list of prohibited books ( Index librorum prohibitorum ). In Protestant, Social Democratic Sweden was Det fulländade äktenskapet well known, although it as pornographic was considered and until the 1960s as unsuitable for young readers.
