The Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium (THG) in Mühlacker im Enzkreis in Baden-Württemberg is named after the first Federal President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Theodor Heuss, who was born in nearby Brackenheim .
At the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium, 887 students are currently being taught in 35 classes by 80 teachers (as of the 2019/20 school year). In 2004, with the introduction of the eight-year grammar school ( G8 ), a bilingual train was set up. The pupils are taught bilingual in certain subjects from grade 7 if they are able to do so. Only after the 6th grade does it decide who is allowed to choose the bilingual move.
The Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium offers a scientific and a linguistic profile regardless of participation in the bilingual train. The foreign language sequence is English (from grade 5) and French or Latin (from grade 6). In the linguistic profile, the third foreign language Spanish follows from grade 8 and in the natural sciences profile the subject natural science and technology . A sports profile has also been available since the 2016/17 school year. The THG is the only grammar school in the Karlsruhe region that offers computer science as a core subject in the upper level.
history
The Dürrmenz-Mühlacker secondary school, founded in 1889, is considered a forerunner. The location of the school changed several times, initially it was housed in the building of today's Ulrich von Dürrmenz elementary school. From 1937 it was called Oberschule für Jungs and was attended by around 180 students at that time. In 1946, an upper school was initially set up in trial operation, and on March 11, 1954, the high school was officially expanded to become a grammar school. In 1972 the first construction phase of the current location was completed. Since this year it also bears the name of the former Federal President. The THG has been under the direction of Thomas Mühlbayer since 2001.
