Theodor Pallady
Theodor Pallady (born April 11, 1871 in Iași , † August 16, 1956 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian painter .
At a young age, Pallady moved to Dresden , where he studied technology between 1887 and 1889. At the same time he studied art with Erwin Oehme , who recognized his talent and advised him to go to Paris . There he worked in Jean Arman's studio and enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts ( Académie des Beaux-Arts ). From 1892 he worked in Gustave Moreau's studio , where he had colleagues from Henri Matisse , Georges Rouault and Albert Marquet .
In 1904 Pallady returned to Romania and exhibited his works in the Romanian Athenaeum . However, he kept the connection to Paris open, where he had many personal exhibitions until World War II . In 1924, 1940 and 1942 he exhibited at the Venetian Biennale .
The Theodor Pallady Museum in Bucharest has only six paintings by Pallady. It is a division of the National Art Museum of Romania and resides in one of the oldest residential buildings in Bucharest. More of his works are in the main collection of the National Art Museum, in the Zambaccian Museum , also in Bucharest, in the Palace of Culture in Iași , the Argeș County Museum in Pitești and the National Brukenthal Museum in Sibiu .
