Theodor upright

Theodor Aufrecht (born January 7, 1822 in Leschnitz , Upper Silesia , † April 3, 1907 in Bonn ) was a German Indologist and Sanskritist .

Life

Aufrecht worked at the Bodleian Library in Oxford from 1852 and was Regius Professor of Sanskrit for Sanskrit and comparative linguistic research from 1861 to 1875 at the University of Edinburgh and from 1875 to 1889 at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . He published the Catalogus Catalogorum , in which all known Sanskrit texts were indexed.

In 1864 he became a corresponding member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences and in 1869 a corresponding member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences . From 1902 he was also a corresponding member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .

After his death he bequeathed his extensive private library, which he had initially given to his friend and university colleague Eugen Prym , to the library of Bonn University at his instigation.
