Theodor Berthold

Theodor Berthold ( pseudonyms : Theodor Bleibtreu , Dorus von Bockelt , Theodor Carus ; * December 4, 1841 as Theodor Gottfried Johann Berthold in Münster , † April 20, 1909 in Bocholt ) was a German writer .

Life

Theodor Berthold graduated after visiting the school in 1862, a study of classical philology and the French language and literature at the Royal Academy of Theology and Philosophy in Münster. As a soldier he took part in the German-Danish War in 1864 and in the German-Austrian War in 1866 . After he had passed his teacher examination in 1868, he completed a probationary year as a teacher at a grammar school in Munster; then he worked as a high school teacher in Breslau and from 1869 in Glogau . In 1875 a chronic sore throat led to his early retirement . Berthold spent the rest of his life as a freelance writer with mother and brother in Bocholt.

Theodor Berthold's literary work, which appeared to a large extent in magazines , includes short stories , columnist sketches and memoirs of the author. He achieved the greatest success with his funny high school stories , which were reprinted in numerous editions until the 1920s.
