These two subject areas formed the main focus of his teaching and research. Both his own publications in books and magazine articles as well as the dissertation topics of his doctoral students and the topics of the post-doctoral candidates focused on teaching and proclaiming the faith. His students included Adolf Exeler , Wolfgang Offele, Gerhard Bellinger , Gerhard Mücher and Franz Kamphaus , all of whom have become professors at a university. In addition, Exeler became his successor in Münster and Kamphaus Bishop of Limburg.
