Theodor Heyse

Theodor Friedrich Heyse (born October 8, 1803 in Oldenburg ; † February 10, 1884 in Florence ) was a German classical philologist .

Life

Heyse grew up in Oldenburg and Nordhausen , where his father, Johann Christian August Heyse, taught. From 1822 he studied (like his older brother Karl Wilhelm Ludwig ) at the Berlin Friedrich Wilhelms University . In 1827 he became a teacher at the educational institution at Lenzburg Castle in the canton of Aargau , which was run by Christian Lippe .

In 1832 he went to Rome , where he researched handwritten sources and worked as a private teacher. In 1861 he came to Munich , but returned to Italy in 1865, where he lived until his death.
