Theodoricus Hackspan

Theodoricus Hackspan (born November 8, 1607 in Weimar , † January 16, 1659 in Altdorf near Nuremberg ; also Theodoricus Hackspann , German Dietrich , in many sources incorrectly Theodor ) was a German theologian , orientalist and university professor .

Life

Hackspan, the son of a Weimar estate inspector, first attended school in Weimar, then the grammar school in Roßleben . He began studying philosophy and oriental languages in 1625 at the University of Jena , went to the University of Altdorf in 1631 and finally to study theology at the University of Helmstedt . He was there among other students of Georg Calixt and Konrad Hornejus .

In 1636 Hackspan learned of the death of Professor Daniel Schwenter from Altdorf and sent an application there, although he had not yet obtained any academic degrees . Shortly afterwards he was appointed professor of the Hebrew language , and in 1654 he was appointed full professor of theology at the same university. He was dean of the theological faculty and rector of the university at Altdorf University. He was never appointed Dean of the Philosophical Faculty due to a lack of academic degrees.
