Theodor Karl Eduard von Bomhard (born January 12, 1841 in Wunsiedel , † March 17, 1945 in Prien am Chiemsee ) was a Bavarian artillery general and the oldest living knight of the Iron Cross from the Franco-German War 1870/71.

Life

Bomhard embarked on a military career in the Bavarian Army and took part in the war against Prussia in 1866 and in the war against France in 1870/71. On March 3, 1911, Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria gave him the character of General of the Artillery.

On the occasion of his 100th birthday, Bomhard received the authorization to wear the uniform of the 7th Artillery Regiment of the Wehrmacht with the general badge on January 12, 1941 . This association had taken over the tradition after the First World War and the associated dissolution of the 1st field artillery regiment "Prinzregent Luitpold" , which Bomhard commanded from December 12, 1889 to June 11, 1893 .

Bomhard died on March 17, 1945 one hour after the death of his daughter Anna, who had looked after her father in the last few years after her mother's death in 1933.

family

Theodor von Bomhard was the son of Carl Theresius Philipp Georg Wilhelm von Bomhard (1800–1866) and his wife Charlotte Theresia Henriette Bernhardine, born von Arnim (1809–1892). Theodor himself was married twice, first to Anna Friek (1844–1870), and then to Constanze (1846–1933), Felix Dahn's sister . He was married to Constanze for over 60 years before she died in Prien-Ernsdorf in 1933. The later Bavarian Major General Karl von Bomhard (1866–1938) emerged from the first marriage .
