Karl Eduard Christoph von Bomhard (born April 2, 1866 in Munich , † May 25, 1938 in Prien am Chiemsee ) was a Bavarian major general .

Life

origin

He was the son of the later Bavarian general of the artillery Theodor von Bomhard (1841-1945).

Military career

Bomhard graduated from the humanistic high school and in 1883 joined the 3rd field artillery regiment "Queen Mother" of the Bavarian Army as a volunteer for promotion . After successfully attending the Munich War School , he was promoted to secondary lieutenant on February 15, 1886, and three years later he was promoted to departmental adjutant . From 1892 to 1895 Bomhard graduated from the War Academy , which pronounced him the qualification for the higher adjutantage and the subject. As a prime lieutenant he was then transferred to the 1st field artillery regiment "Prince Regent Luitpold" . From 1897 to 1898 Bomhard served as an adjutant of the 1st Field Artillery Brigade , became a captain on September 19, 1900 and taught from 1902 as a teacher at the artillery and engineering school . In 1905 he was assigned to the railway department of the Prussian General Staff in Berlin and from 1906 he was employed there as a railway commissioner. After Bomhard was promoted to major on March 9, 1908 , he became line commander in Munich that same year . In 1910 he returned to the troop service and became commander of the 2nd division in the 3rd field artillery regiment "Prince Leopold" . With his promotion to lieutenant colonel , Bomhard rose to the regimental staff in 1912. On January 23, 1913 he was appointed commander of the 8th field artillery regiment "Prince Heinrich of Prussia" stationed in Nuremberg .

Bomhard also held this position when the First World War broke out . After his regiment had mobilized on August 2, 1914 , it was initially used with the 6th Field Artillery Brigade in conjunction with the 6th Infantry Division in the border battles and the Battle of Lorraine . This was followed by the battle of Nancy - Epinal and from September 18, 1914 he was in the fighting between the Meuse and the Moselle . As a colonel , Bomhard was also deputy leader of the 12th Infantry Brigade in 1915 . After he had surrendered his regiment on December 5, 1916, he was given command of the 5th Field Artillery Brigade , with Bomhard u. a. was used in the battle of Arras . On April 29, 1917 he was commander of the 6th Field Artillery Brigade and as such promoted to major general on December 14, 1917.

After the end of the war , Bomhard returned home and was put up for disposal after the demobilization in early 1919 .

post war period

In retirement, Bomhard wrote the 2nd part (January 1917 until demobilization) of the history of the 8th field artillery regiment "Prince Heinrich of Prussia" published by the Bavarian War Archives .

family

Bomhard was married to Marie Ludovika Mathilde, née von Heinleth (born June 13, 1867 in Augsburg). She was the daughter of the later Bavarian General of Infantry and Minister of War Adolf von Heinleth . From the marriage u. a. the son Adolf emerged, who made it to SS group leader and lieutenant general of the police under National Socialism as well as mayor of Prien in the Federal Republic of Germany.
