Theodor Khuen
Theodor Franz Maria Khuen (born July 13, 1860 in Vienna ; † June 22, 1922 there ) was an Austrian sculptor .
Life
Theodor Khuen was a grandson of the painter Eduard Friedrich Leybold and thus a great grandson of the engraver Johann Friedrich Leybold . He was trained by H. Haerdtl, Viktor Tilgner and H. Gasser.
Some of his works were melted down and turned into weapons during World War II . In 1943, before this meltdown, molds of the works of art were made in order to be able to restore them after the war; however, this was not put into practice.
In 1903 his monument to the lawyer Franz Hofmann was unveiled, which has the shape of a portrait relief. He also created the tomb of the actress Josefine Gallmeyer , which is located in the Vienna Central Cemetery . The 14 stations of the cross in the church of St. Karl Borromäus in the Geriatric Center Am Wienerwald and the monument to Andreas Hofer , which has stood on the Kalvarienberg in Kufstein since 1926 , have also been preserved. Originally, this bronze monument, which Khuen created before the First World War , was to be erected in Vienna. But after the republic was proclaimed in 1918 and Hofer was no longer popular as a supporter of the Habsburgs, the five-meter-high statue was no longer wanted in the capital and was sold cheaply to Kufstein. A monument to Joseph Madersperger created by Khuen was erected in the same town as early as 1903 .
The Khuenweg in Vienna- Aspern is named after Theodor Khuen .
