Theodor Kirsch (oral surgeon)

Theodor Kirsch (born May 5, 1912 in Hoffenheim , † October 31, 1997 in Heidelberg ) was a German oral and maxillofacial surgeon and university professor .

Life

Born in Hoffenheim, Theodor Kirsch, who lost his father in World War I , passed his Abitur in Sinsheim . He then turned to studying medicine and dentistry at the Universities of Heidelberg and Marburg , before becoming a Dr. med. and Dr. med. dent. received his doctorate . In the same year, Theodor Kirsch took up an assistant position with Karl Friedrich Schmidhuber at the University Dental Clinic in Heidelberg until he was deployed as a troop doctor on the Eastern and Western fronts after the outbreak of World War II . After the end of the war, Theodor Kirsch was taken prisoner by the French , from which he was released in 1947.

Theodor Kirsch subsequently received a position as a guest assistant, and after his specialist certification, a position as a scheduled assistant at the Heidelberg Dental Clinic. In 1953 he qualified as a professor there for dentistry, oral and maxillofacial medicine, in 1956 he was appointed senior physician , in 1958 an adjunct professor and in 1960 a scientific adviser . In 1964, Kirsch accepted the call to the extraordinary professorship for maxillofacial surgery and dental surgery at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . Theodor Kirsch, promoted to full professor in 1966, took over the same professorship at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen in 1968 in succession to Wilhelm Meyer , which he held until his retirement in 1980. Theodor Kirsch, who married Johanna, born Voll in 1940, with whom he had three daughters, died in 1997 at the age of 85 in Heidelberg.

His scientific and clinical field of work included anesthesia in dentistry, childhood osteomyelitis , cyst genesis , implantology and the wide range of jaw fractures.
